on my mind

on training.

Thanks, everyone, for all of your very helpful input and encouragement. A venture that literally had me shaking in my boots became much less daunting, thanks to your camaraderie.

The verdict? After a full week, including a busy weekend with outing to the woods, church, and a restaurant, I can confidently say that we [he!] did it!! We’ve already moved into the “Let’s not be lazy, no pants-wetting allowed!” stage. Ha!

(Still take pre-cautionary measures at naptime [good old fashioned “rubber” pants, although he woke up dry yesterday!!], and he wears a diaper at bedtime. All in good time…)

on comments.

I am so glad for all the feedback I received. It is so nice to know that, when I am confronted with something that makes my rookie-mama heart quake, I can call on all of you for advice and, well, the pep-talks I so often need.

I do wish I were better at responding to comments, though. I’m sorry that I’m not. Windows of time where typing is not a huge effort are hard to come by, and so I try to make sure I use it wisely. (Okay, that sounds way more disciplined than I am, but I really do try!) So, instead of replies to all of the comments, I crank out a new post. Someday, I’ll be able to do it all. I haven’t figured out which day that is yet, but when I do, you’ll be the first to know.

on routines.

I need to get back into one.

That’s all I have to say on that one.

(An aside: My mom told me, when William was born, that she always gave herself 6 months to get back on track after a new baby. I’ve decided that yes, it takes 6 whole months. But I also thought, “Holy Cow. My mom has spent 4.5 years of her life getting back on track after a baby. That’s a lot of just-do-your-best days. Thanks, Mom!)

Six months… wow, that puts it into perspective. That means I have two more to go. On the potty training bit, I have meant to comment for quite a few days but never got enough time to just sit and do it, so here I go. Adriana turns everything into an interesting adventure because you never know how she will react to new challenges and changes. That being said, this has been a crazy month with her deciding she wants to go in the toilet, and she wants to go back to a diaper way too many times to count in one single day! We’re trying though, and went the pull up way because her accidents had me running in all directions too often in one day. Happy that your venture turned out easier than that!!! Love you!

great job, I also wanted to comment on that video of happy baby. Oh my gosh, what wonderful dimples he has, I must have played that over and over at least 3 times – It just makes me smile from ear to ear. love to you all.

Yes, I, too abide by the 6 month theory – as a minimum. 9 months to start considering really fitting back into those jeans. :) And it doesn’t matter how many kids you do or don’t have. In other words, no beating yourself up for “only” having two and not being up to speed, and vice versa (“but I should have this down by the 6th kid!”).

Congrats on the potty training. We are so not there yet. But I THINK we may have made it through the day without any nursing (still have to get him to fall asleep, so …).

Six months, huh? I guess that means I am failing. Baby Sister is seven months and we are still not back to the way things were before she was born. We are in a routine that works, though. :)

@carole: Thanks for the reminder about 9 months and old jeans. I won’t give up hope quite yet. ;)

@upstatemomof3: A routine that works sounds good to me! I don’t think “getting back on track” EVER means “getting back to what used to be” once you’ve added a new baby! That’s part of the trick, isn’t it — figuring out what will work on this twisty-turny road called motherhood!

Thank The Lord for encouraging moms. Glad that Jameson is doing well with the PT. My Ava is having some difficulty; namely screaming when told to use the potty. She would rather go on her own then be asked to use the potty. I’m not brave enough to just put her in underwear and let her have accidents but, I think I may just “buck up” and do it. Lots of people have suggested it. :)

6 months!?! Wow – I always figured it took 2 years to feel up to what I did before!
    But it always came!

one thought I had routines: I feel like there’s also the lack-of-routine days in early pregnancy. can we tally those up, too, just to make me feel a little bit less like a loser right now???

    *sigh*
