three little loves.

William had a tick on his ankle yesterday. That was our first encounter with that particular grossness. Wow. Yuck. Said tick was in the woods somewhere — a place William is very happy to be these days. He follows Jameson quite happily. If they’re not in the woods, they’re on their bikes — William continuing to ride in the same circles, at the same pace, staring at the clouds and talking to himself. He is such a fun little man.

Jameson prefers to ride his bike to the top of the hill and then ZOOM down as fast as he can. His corners and swerves are getting closer and closer to the ground, and the look on his face is so full of determination and enthusiasm and love for life. He always wears his heart on his sleeve, for better or for worse. It’s easy, in the overt display of emotion, to be overwhelmed by his struggles and miss all of the moments in between when he’s a singing, working, happily just being part of our family.

Beatrice has a feisty streak that’s starting to peek through. It’s amazing how quickly she’s becoming a person. Who will she be? How will she fit into our lives? How will she change our lives? She sits at her little toy basket and sings to herself — it’s so, so sweet. Yesterday she was in the middle of the boys’ room while we worked, and the next minute, she was gone. What? And then giggling, from under the bed. You never know where she’s going to roll! Her naps are easy and regular, she loves to snuggle with me at night, and even with four teeth (four!), her happy self is rarely bothered. My only complaint is that she’s growing too fast.

They are, altogether, the best.

william, slow and steady

William is NOT a daredevil. He is careful and cautious. Recently, he has been pushing his comfort zone with climbing and such, always asking me, “Aren’t I brave, Mama?” (Well, he actually asks, “Am me bwave, Mama?”)

Yesterday, after a week of trying, he finally really “got” pedaling. (Up till now, he’s had a trike and has been happy to mostly just push it along Flintstone-style.) It’s so fun to watch him ride around in circles — the most cerebral bike riding you’ve ever seen!

day at the farm

Today, after serving scones and caps to a table of wonderful guests, the kids and I spent an afternoon at our friends’ nearby farm. There were baby goats and piglets to see, and most of all, their wonderful family.

The sky was blue, the sun was warm, the wind was chilly — it was a perfect April day. And their charming farm, which I grew up admiring, is bursting with dreams come true.

We took a tour of baby animals. The cute pink piglets were especially exciting, although when the sow walked by, William instantly gagged. His sensitive nose wasn’t quite up to the challenge. (I laughed. A lot.)

Then the kids played:

Beatrice slept:

And the mamas talked about vaccinations and home schooling, birth and teething, babies sleeping (or not!), SAHM missions fields and anything else that came to mind.

Perfectly lovely.

bedroom tents!

Aaaaand just under the wire, she posts.

There isn’t time or clarity of mind enough to delve into anything too deep or profound tonight. How about photos of what went on while I was at a mother’s meeting? Only the most looked forward to event of the month! Ryan promised the boys that he would rig a tent in their bedroom, and then they would all watch a movie in their sleeping bags. Ack!! So exciting!!

movies in a tent!

The sharing I heard tonight was also very good, and worth a great deal of rumination. Tomorrow, perhaps, I’ll do just that. Stay tuned.
